Miss Kira Melbourne is anything but a proper English rose. Her exotic beauty, courtesy of her foreign mother, has marked her as an outsider, and her ghastly reputation as a woman of loose virtue has only added to that status. The victim of a devious viscount’s horrible lies, Kira has the chance to redeem herself and become a member of polite society as the fiancée of a respected country clergyman. She’ll finally have a place to belong…even if it’s in the tepid arms of a man she doesn’t love. Gavin Daggett, Duke of Cropthorne, isn’t about to let his naive country cousin marry a scandalous woman like Kira Melbourne. The solution is a simple one Gavin will seduce the vixen and prove her unworthiness, thereby releasing his cousin from any obligation. But spending time with Kira is like awakening to a world of color and beauty, and it stirs the fiery desires Gavin has fought to suppress his entire life. Caught in his own dangerous game, sharing forbidden pleasure with Kira, Gavin knows that the price of loving her is high—and yet it is one that he will willingly pay…with every beat of his heart.

Kira Melbourne is running from a scandal. She foolishly ran way with a nobleman whom she thought was going to whisk her off to Gretna Green, instead he abandoned her and told the ton about her "wanton" behavior.

Kira is simply one of the best and most complex heroines I have ever read about in a romance novel. She is half Persian and she is considered bad blood. She cannot find her place either in London or Persia. She desires peace and a family and the only one able to provide these for her is a sweet vicar. The Vicar knows of her past but dismisses it. He does not love Kira but desires to save her. This too-good-to-be-true vicar has an important cousin though, Gavin Daggett, the Duke of Cropthorne

Gavin has heard the rumors surrounding Kira and is appalled. He decides seducing her is the only way to show his cousin her true nature. Of course, the seducer becomes the seduced. Shelly Bradley doesn't take the easy road with these two characters though. Gavin is prejudiced against Kira's Middle Eastern bloodline. Furthermore, he feels ashamed and guilty for his prejudice. His seduction is despicable and he knows this but seems unable to stop things once they are in motion.

Kira is so incredibly lonely that it is totally understandable why she would see Gavin's cousin as her savior. It also explains why she responds so quickly to Gavin's seduction. He portrays kindness and acceptance, something she has never had her entire life from the ton. He is also passionate and ready to take a stand on her behalf.

Gavin has his own demons to exorcise. He does not want to succumb to real love and passion, else he end up like his father, an indiscriminate womanizer. His transformation is slow but by the end of the book he is totally redeemed and worthy of his heroine. Kira was bold, brave and had a wealth of kindness. Her unselfish nature and confidence were amazing even under some of the most trying circumstances. This book will most assuredly go on my keeper shelf.

Strictly Forbidden Shayla Black 9781936596102 Books Reviews

This story had promise but lost my interest. I stopped reading this novel and returned to it a week later. I liked the story line and the characters, but the heroine is so silly and naive it really is just not believable. The plot contained a unique additional story about villain that I liked, and that the author developed this subplot well. The hero is not a very nice to the heroine for the beginning of the novel and she forgives him rather easily and falls right into the plot he has for her. The heroine is weak, and desperate for attention and love from a man. Those traits are hard to successfully overcome during the course of a novel and I don't think that the heroine accomplished the task.
It's a nice change of pace to read a romance novel from the 1800's. It's so hysterical to see all the strict formalities and social norms from back then that prevented women from expressing themselves and their love. There are some steamy love scenes. I just hated the way the guy was so hung up on his social status vs. going for taking the love-of-his-life.
This book was very romantic, It was well written and the complexities of falling love no matter what the consequence was well identified. The bigotry was explored and in the end love prevailed. This writer wrote like some one who has a first hand knowledge of what it is like to love and fear that your love won't be returned because of something that is out of your control
Of course I think anything written by Shayla Black is excellent. If you like reading books that take place way back when this is a good one to read. It's kinda cool to see how people lived so many years ago. The mannerisms and high society, I get a laugh out of it all. This is a forbidden love come true! Cute story line, easy to read, and a very romantic ending. ) I hate reviews on here that give too much away. Gavin and Kira will touch your heart!
Strictly forbidden was fabulous! Not only was there a wonderful plot with many exciting terms it ended in love prevailing. Gavin and Kira's story was a wonderful and enticing read. There were times when I wanted to scream for Kira and times that I felt sorry for Gavin. Although I do believe that James is just naive and Darius is a great brother to have his sisters honor at heart. This book is truly a must read for any romance enthusiast!
Kira Melbourne has been an outcast from society for most of her life. She was half Persian and English so was not accepted in proper society. She had recently been accused of an scandalous affair with an notorious Lord She gets engaged to a respected country vicar even though neither loves the other. She is doing it only hoping to get accepted into society. His cousin Gavin Daggett a Duke does everything in his power to break up the wedding. He finally seduces her and still treats her like dirt. She keeps having sex him even though she knows she shouldn't. The only person that has ever treated her kindly is her younger brother Darius. Gavin knows she loves him so because everything is unsuitable about her he gets engaged to another woman. She and he are nothing but friends but she is a lady. I admired Kira no matter what happened she tried to not let people know how they hurt her. She is one person you hope will get the happy ever after in this book. I enjoyed it first time reading the author but will again
Really enjoyed the writing style and character development, however the hero didn't grovel enough for all the hurt and betrayal he caused the herione, nor did she put an end to his mistreatment early enough, in my opinion. But all in all it was a good story, just not really worth the price I paid 🤐
